About NH Sanctioned Snow Sculpting

Sponsored again this year by Nestlenook Farm Recreation. For the last five years Black Mountain hosted this event and we thank you them for the success we celebrated each year there. This year we are headed back to the Jackson Village Park area where there will be at least 10 teams stationed there and two teams will be stationed at Nestlenook Farm.

This event attracts a wide variety of sculptors, both amateur and professional. In fact, many of the Competing Teams will be using this weekend as a practice run for Lake Geneva, WI and the Nationals. Other sanctioned states holding championship competitions include Alaska, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and Wisconsin. Each team of sculptors consists of 2 or 3 members, and in order to be eligible to compete in the State Championship, team members must be 18 years or older and reside or work in New Hampshire. The winning team of the State Championship will receive a trophy and an invitation to compete in the United States National Snow Sculpting Competition, to be held at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in 2016. Our New Hampshire State Sanctioned winners for 2014 were Team Odhner (Jefferson and Jenna = a father daughter team)who will be headed to Lake Geneva for the 2015 Nationals representing the entire state of New Hampshire. The winners of the Nationals then go on to compete in international competitions offered by sanctioned member countries such as Switzerland, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, China, Norway and Russia.

Each team sculpts a cylinder shaped block of snow 4 feet in diameter by 8 feet tall to create their snow sculptures. Teams start sculpting at noon on Friday, January 23rd and continue working through Saturday to complete their sculptures in time for the judging on Sunday at Noon January 25th. Judging is based on creativity, technique and message.

Other activities planned for the snow sculpture weekend include a cross country ski torch light parade, a bonfire with toasting of marshmallows, a welcome reception dinner on Saturday night January 24th, sleigh rides at Nestlenook Farm by the River, Scavenger Hunts for the kids, a great Silent Auction and more. For complete details on this event please keep checking back here or on Facebook at JacksonAreaCofC. As we get closer to the event more information will be posted.
